If you detect a slight East Coast accent on KZLA's Morning Show host Peter Tilden, you'd be correct. Peter's originally from Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, which is just outside of Philadelphia. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts from Temple University and was close to finishing his Master's in Philosophy when he realized that academia wasn't where he really wanted to be.
His first radio job was at WYSP in Philadelphia. At the time, Peter had owned an ad agency and the station was actually a client of his. They needed someone to do a one hour show on weekends and felt that Peter fit in perfectly. He kept the agency running for 5 years while he did the radio show and began exploring other career options. In addition to his radio and advertising career, Peter has also spent some time in front of the camera, hosting NBC's "Later," ABC's "The Midnight Hour" and "PM Magazine" in Philadelphia.
He made the move to the West Coast in 1990 when he was asked to host the KLSX Morning Show. A year later he went to KABC where, for the next eight years, he hosted both Morning and Afternoon Drive shows, as well as a Morning show for their sister station KMPC. During that time he also wrote and produced pilots for CBS, Nickelodeon and HBO. Peter was recently a writer and Executive Producer for the sit-com "Bob Patterson."
Peter's favorite hang out is at the beach or anywhere his family is. He especially loves long quiet dinners with his wife Tommi. Peter has 3 children - Robert, Ben and Rachel and he claims that his dog, Trudy, is the ugliest mutt in the world.
We asked Peter what he would be if he weren't a DJ and he replied, "I have no idea… maybe making the best funnel cakes at the Rose Bowl flea market."
